Charlotte Needs You
Charlotte Update 8/7/2024
We are thrilled to share that Charlotte has been ADOPTED!
Charlotte came to KHS in early July with a severe injury to her back right leg, resulting in complete loss of blood flow. Her tissue was rotting, infected and maggot-infested and required an emergency amputation surgery in order to guarantee a full recovery.
After her surgery, Charlotte entered a loving foster home where she was able to rest and recover away from the stress of the shelter. Her foster family fell head-over-heels in love with Charlotte’s doting personality, and decided to make her an official part of the family!
THANK YOU to all who shared Charlotte’s story and donated in her honor. Happily-ever-afters like this one are made possible by supporters like YOU. HAPPY TAILS, CHARLOTTE!
Charlotte Update 7/17/2024
Charlotte came to KHS last week with a severe injury to her back right leg, resulting in complete loss of blood flow. This poor dog’s leg tissue was rotting, infected and maggot-infested, and would have surely taken her life without immediate intervention. We performed an emergency amputation surgery to remove Charlotte’s injured leg and thankfully, she is recovering well! Her infections are waning and in turn, Charlotte is becoming more playful and loving by the day. She is adjusting to three-legged life like a champ and will soon be ready for adoption.
On Wednesday afternoon, a dog arrived at the Kentucky Humane Society in critical condition. This poor pup, who we’ve been calling Charlotte, appears to have had her back right leg stuck in something, causing her leg to lose blood flow and turn gangrenous. Charlotte’s leg tissue was rotting, infected and infested with maggots. Without immediate action, her injuries could have been fatal.
We performed emergency amputation surgery to save Charlotte from sepsis and in turn, save her life. Thankfully she is recovering well and seems to be on the mend. Please donate in Charlotte’s honor to support lifesaving care for more animals just like her.
