Neglected Senior Dog Arrives in Critical Condition

Labubu Update

11/4/2025

When we introduced you to Labubu last week, she was in terrible shape. Her fur was so matted that we couldn’t see her eyes, skin or nails, leaving her in terrible pain and unable to comfortably move. After removing 1.5 POUNDS of matted fur from this 11-year-old dog, we’re relieved to say she’s doing very well. In fact, she’s doing so well that she’s officially been cleared by our veterinary team and is AVAILABLE for adoption!

Now that she’s able to move freely, Labubu’s true personality is able to shine. She’s a happy-go-lucky girl who’s people-oriented and loves soaking up every bit of attention that she can. We’re confident that Labubu is going to be the best companion. All she’s missing is YOU, so visit her at our Sam Swope Pet TLC (241 Steedly Drive) today!

Severely Matted Senior Needs Your Help

10/30/2025

Late last week, our veterinary team received an urgent call from another shelter who desperately needed us to take in a severely neglected 11-year-old dog. Our hearts broke upon her arrival at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center.

This poor pup, who we’ve named Labubu, was so severely matted that she couldn’t comfortably move—we couldn’t even see her eyes or find skin to give her preliminary vaccinations. It soon became clear that this poor dog had likely lived the past couple of years without basic care.

Our first step in helping this little lady feel better was a full-body shave. Due to the severity of her condition, we sedated her so that she’d remain comfortable and fear-free throughout this process, which ended up taking over an hour.

Finally, we were able to remove 1.5 pounds of fur to reveal the dog hidden behind this mess of matting. Along the way we also found that Labubu’s feet are deformed and her nails had been trapped by the matting on her feet, causing them to grow inwards towards her paw pads. We can’t imagine the pain this poor girl has been living with, but we’ve promised her that it will never happen again.

For now, this sweet girl is getting the tender loving care she desperately needs. She’ll likely require further, in-depth care and possibly a dental extraction surgery, but we’ll take this healing journey slow and steady so that she can rest and recuperate appropriately. We’ll keep you updated on Labubu’s progress but in the meantime, please donate to support our lifesaving care for the neglected, abused and forgotten animals of our community. Thank you!
