An Update on Darla and Her Puppies

Against all odds, Darla and her 8 puppies are still alive. The single puppy who’s been in foster with a staff member is still fighting, and has slowly started eating independently. We also received word today that the three puppies who’ve been at a local clinic undergoing seizure treatment are stable, and were able to return to our care earlier today. We believe their seizures were caused by severe malnutrition, and are hopeful they won’t experience any more.

Darla and her four other puppies are still in a loving foster home weaning. It’s clear that right now, all of this poor mama’s energy is spent focusing on her babies. While her dedication is admirable, it’s not conducive to recovery and is actually keeping Darla from gaining weight. Our next goal is to send Darla’s babies to separate foster homes so that she’s able to peacefully heal from the trauma she’s endured. Her babies will continue getting all of the tender loving care they need to thrive without stealing nutrients from their mama.

Though this canine family’s prognoses remain guarded, we’re relieved they’re still with us and will continue to pour our hearts and souls into their care. For now, Darla and her babies will remain under close observation in their foster homes to ensure they don’t come across further complications. We will keep you updated on their progress but in the meantime, please donate in honor of Darla and her puppies. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us open our doors to vulnerable animals when they need us most. Thank you for caring!
