Forrest arrived at KHS in bad shape having suffered a life-threatening degloving injury near his jugular vein. We performed emergency surgery as soon as he arrived, placing a tube to drain infection and starting him on intensive rounds of medication. Now we’re one week removed from surgery and thankfully, he’s making great strides.
Forrest’s surgery site is healing exactly as it should. He’s also gained nearly ten pounds, weighing in at 28 pounds as opposed to his intake weight of about 14 pounds. Because of this progress, we were able to remove the drain from his injury site, and neuter him at the same time. We’re very impressed with the resilience Forrest has shown and feel confident he’ll one day be a normal, happy puppy once again.

For now, Forrest is in a foster home with a staff member so he can continue healing without the added stress of shelter life. There, he’ll continue his medication regimen and weight gain protocol until he’s officially ready for adoption. Please consider donating in his honor so we can continue providing lifesaving care to the animals in our community who need us most.
