A Mother’s Love Carries Matilda Through Amputation Surgery

Miss Honey and Matilda Are Adoptable!

The day has finally come – Miss Honey and Matilda have been cleared by our veterinary team and are now available for adoption as a bonded pair! Thanks to your support, they were able to peacefully recover in a foster home until the time for next steps came along. Now they’re finally ready to leave their traumatic past behind them and find a place to call their forever home! If you’re interested in adopting this adorable mother/daughter duo, visit them at our Sam Swope Pet TLC (241 Steedly Drive) and see for yourself just how sweet they are.

Miss Honey and Matilda Enjoy a Break from Shelter Life

Miss Honey and Matilda are currently settling into a foster home. Matilda’s taking to three-legged life like a seasoned professional, romping and playing under the watchful eye of her loving mama. We’re sure that with time Miss Honey’s maternal instincts will wane, but for now, we’re happy to allow her this stress-free time with her baby. Watching her grow stronger and healthier each day—and start to discover what it means to just be a dog—is a true privilege. Thank you so much for cheering this sweet duo on and donating in their honor. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on their progress!

Miss Honey and Matilda on the Road to Recovery

Miss Honey snuggling Matilda post surgery.

Last week, we introduced you to a mother/daughter Husky duo in desperate need of tender loving care. Miss Honey was severely emaciated, and her two-month-old baby Matilda had a devastating injury to her back right leg. Through it all, Miss Honey never left Matilda’s side—so we made a promise to never leave theirs. When our veterinary team first assessed Matilda’s injury, we were relieved to find no broken bones and hoped that, with time and care, she could make a full recovery. But after a week with no improvement, it became clear that the nerve damage was irreversible, and Matilda would never regain full feeling or function in that leg. To give her the best possible chance at a healthy, pain-free life, we moved forward with amputation surgery earlier this week.

Miss Honey with Matilda

We allowed Miss Honey to stay close during the procedure, knowing she couldn’t stand to be apart from her baby. She peered over the table as our team gently prepped Matilda, and once she saw that her daughter was in the best hands, she trusted us to care for her. Once Matilda was placed in recovery, Miss Honey curled up behind her and covered her in kisses.

Soon, Miss Honey and Matilda will head to a foster home where they can recover in comfort together. We’ll continue to share updates on their progress but in the meantime, please consider donating in their honor. Right now, your gift will double to support twice as many animals in need thanks to Strategic Communications, who is matching ALL gifts made to KHS through April 15 up to $15,000. Thank you for your compassionate support of this sweet pair.
