Update 5/16/2025 – Wilbur is Healing Beautifully!

It’s official – Wilbur’s no longer a pink little piglet! He grows more fur every single day, and we love the fawn-colored look he’s got going on. While he’s not quite ready for adoption yet, Wilbur is getting all of the tender loving care he deserves in his foster home. His foster siblings are teaching him how to “dog” with supervised play sessions and snuggly naps in the sun. Soon enough, Wilbur will return to our Sam Swope Pet TLC to get neutered before he hits the adoption floor. Stay tuned for more updates!
Update 4/17/2025 – Wilbur is Still Fighting

Earlier this week, we introduced you to Wilbur, a sweet, three-month-old puppy who arrived at KHS in critical condition. He is suffering from lethargy, dehydration and diarrhea due to Giardia, and he’s also battling Demodectic Mange, which has left him with no fur. That means poor Wilbur’s largest and most protective organ—his skin—is swollen, infected and extremely sensitive to every breeze, touch or movement.

Even with pain medication and antibiotics in his system, Wilbur is hurting. Despite all of this pain, he remains patient and gentle when handled as if he knows we’re here to help. Wilbur receives daily medicated baths to ease his itching and gently remove the dead mites and scabs. Thankfully, he seems to enjoy the warm water and loving touch! We are also keeping Wilbur’s belly full and his body hydrated as he heals, knowing he needs more strength to continue recovering.

For now, Wilbur is resting and recuperating under our veterinary team’s watchful eyes. His recovery will take time, but we’re giving him every chance to feel safe, loved and cared for—just as every animal deserves. We will keep you updated on his healing progress but in the meantime, please donate to support animals just like Wilbur when they come through our doors with nowhere else to turn.
