On December 26 at 9:30pm, our veterinary team ended their holiday celebrations early to save an animal’s life. They performed emergency surgery on a puppy who had a foreign object lodged in her throat.
Jovie had been surrendered to another animal shelter right before Christmas Eve. She was vomiting, so the shelter tested her for illness. When the tests came back negative, they hoped she was just experiencing an upset tummy. But over the next few days, Jovie’s condition worsened and she was unable to eat. An animal hospital took an x-ray and found that Jovie had swallowed a baby pacifier. The hospital contacted our veterinarian, who came in Saturday night to perform the emergency surgery and remove the pacifier.
We are thrilled that the surgery was a success, and Jovie is recovering beautifully! She is spending New Year’s in a loving foster home. We want to take this moment to thank our amazing veterinary staff and all the hardworking people in animal welfare who work together to save lives.
We also want to thank YOU for making our lifesaving work possible. Your donations pay for nutritious food, veterinary care and compassionate staff who work tirelessly to save lives. Thank you for sticking by KHS in 2020. The animals appreciate you!
And don’t forget: donate before midnight on December 31 to have your gift DOUBLED! Please don’t miss this opportunity to participate in our Matching Gift Challenge! Give by Dec. 31 to help TWICE the lives!
