MAMA LILY UPDATE 9/9/2024
Our sweet girl Lily is recovering well after undergoing an emergency c-section earlier this week. She and her two puppies are thriving, spending their days napping and nursing. Lily and her puppies are now in a loving foster home where they’ll be able to grow big and strong away from the stress of the shelter. Thank you so much for cheering on this adorable canine family! We are so grateful for supporters like you, who make it possible for KHS to be there for animals like Lily when they need us most.
Animals like Lily Need You This Giving Tuesday 12/3/2024
Today is Giving Tuesday and thanks to you, we’ve met our $10,000 match from our friends at MetLife Pet Insurance. But there’s still so much work to do, and we need your help raising $17,000 more to reach our goal of $37,500. Donate today and your gift, no matter the size, will impact the thousands of animals in our community who need us – animals like Lily.
When Lily arrived at KHS this week, she had a surprise in tow – a single, one-day old puppy. Despite having given birth the day before her arrival, Lily was still laboring, and our veterinary team was concerned. X-rays revealed that this small, 16-pound mama had three more puppies stuck in her birth canal. We knew time was of the essence when it came to saving Lily’s life.
It was all hands on deck for an emergency c-section, with 3 KHS staff members doing what Lily could not – rubbing the puppies to warm them up, removing their sacs, and helping them to take their first breaths. Unfortunately, poor Lily had labored for too long that two of her puppies were not able to survive. But thankfully, one puppy made it and immediately began nursing alongside its sibling.
Now, Lily is under constant observation and receiving preventative treatments to eliminate any potential infections caused by her terribly traumatic labor. Thanks to your support, we can save precious lives like Lily’s at a moment’s notice. On this impactful day of giving, please donate so that we can continue to be there for those who need us most.
