Today is GivingTuesday – a globally recognized day of giving. We have set a lofty goal this year to raise $37,500 by midnight – enough to prepare 150 additional animals for adoption. Help us reach it by donating today. Thanks to a $10,000 matching gift challenge from MetLife Pet Insurance, all gifts made today will go even further to support lifesaving care for shelter animals like King Louis.
King Louis was found on a construction site at the University of Louisville with extreme injuries on his tail and rear left leg. This poor boy suffered degloving injuries – a traumatic condition where the skin is peeled back, exposing muscle and risking serious infection.
We believe King Louis may have been trapped under a car hood while trying to escape, causing these devastating wounds. If left untreated for much longer, his injuries would have caused a fatal spine infection and taken his life. Luckily, he was rescued in the nick of time and our veterinary team performed an emergency tail amputation to save his life. They also removed one of the toes from his degloved leg, in hopes of removing the infection and avoiding a full leg amputation. For now, King Louis is recovering from surgery under our team’s watchful eye.
Right now is your chance to help. KHS is in the midst of our annual Give Hope Campaign and our Board of Directors is graciously matching gifts up to $35,000. And today, MetLife Pet Insurance is matching every donation made up to $10,000! That means that today only. your gift will triple to support three times as many animals in need. Every gift, no matter the size, helps animals like King Louis get the second chances they deserve.
