Beagles FAQ

On Thursday, August 4, the Kentucky Humane Society took in 30 of the approximately 4,000 beagles who are being removed from a mass-breeding facility in Cumberland, Virginia that was riddled with animal welfare violations. The facility, owned by Envigo RMS LLC, bred the dogs for sale to laboratories for animal experimentation. We are thankful that compassionate shelters and rescues across the country, including KHS, have been able to step in to save so many innocent lives. We’ve had a lot of interest in the beagles already and have created this page to help answer some of the more frequent questions we are receiving!

Can I adopt one of the beagles?

The 15 adults and 15 puppies – all female – who arrived at KHS are currently being evaluated and receiving care from the KHS team. They are not available for adoption at this time and we will not be accepting applications for the beagles until they are ready for loving homes. Please continue to check our website for updates!

Can I foster one of the beagles?

The beagles are still being evaluated for medical needs and we are unsure how many will need fostering at this time. However, KHS is always in need of foster parents! To learn more about our foster program and fill out an application to join our team, please click here.

I called about the beagles and no one has returned my call yet. When can I expect a call?

We’ve been receiving hundreds of calls, emails and messages from supporters wanting more information on the beagles. We are so moved by the outpouring of support and want to thank everyone for the love! While we strive to answer every message we receive, our first priority is ensuring the animals in our care receive the best care possible. We put together this page in the hopes of answering the most common questions we’re receiving in the most efficient way. We thank you for your patience!

Can I come and visit the beagles?

The beagles are still being individually evaluated and are not ready to meet the public at this time. We will update everyone when they are ready for visitors!

How can I help the beagles and the other animals in your care?

The best way to help the beagles, along with the other animals in our care, is by donating! The Kentucky Humane Society is a local nonprofit organization that relies completely on donations to fund our lifesaving work. If you would like to make a donation, please click here. Thank you so much for your compassion and support!
