February is National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month and unfortunately, Brunhilde knows firsthand just how important alteration surgery is. This six-year-old Yorkie recently came to our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center with a ruptured mammary tumor and by the time she arrived, infection was quickly spreading throughout her entire body.

With time of the essence, we quickly prepped Brunhilde for surgery. We removed a golf ball-sized tumor from her mammary gland, and spayed her to avoid the possibility of further tumors down the line. Following surgery, we started Brunhilde on a strict antibiotic schedule so that her small body can start to fight off the barrage of infection it’s been facing. Now all we can do is let this poor girl rest in a loving foster home, where she can recover from the pain she’s endured.

Brunhilde’s suffering could have easily been prevented if she’d been spayed at a proper age. She’s one of the countless animals we see each year in unnecessary pain because they’re unaltered – and that’s why we need your help. Donate in Brunhilde’s honor so we can continue welcoming vulnerable animals with open arms when they need us most. Together, we can ensure that animals like Brunhilde never have to experience preventable pain.
