Help Us Rally Behind Darla and Her Puppies
Four of Darla’s eight puppies are now in critical condition. The puppy we were most concerned about made it through the night, but remains lethargic and unmotivated to eat. To make matters even worse, three more puppies experienced life-threatening seizures today.
The 3 puppies who seized this morning are now at Shively Animal Clinic under constant observation. Because we do not know the cause of these seizures, keeping them safe and under 24/7 monitoring is our top priority. The skilled team at Shively will begin working to determine the root cause of these seizures while keeping all three puppies comfortable.
The puppy with lethargy and loss of appetite is likely suffering the ramifications of Darla’s long-term emaciation. She poured every ounce of nutrition and love that she had into these babies, but without enough food to keep her healthy, her puppies missed out on critical vitamins and nutrients. This puppy will remain with a dedicated staff member until she is stable, and is receiving frequent feedings and round-the-clock care.
Darla and her remaining four babies are in their foster home, safe and sound. But to be quite honest, survival isn’t guaranteed for the rest of this canine family. There is a chance that their bodies won’t be able to recover from this, and they’re especially vulnerable to illness due to their size and overall health. We are doing EVERYTHING in our power to help these puppies survive another day so they can be reunited with their mama and siblings.
