POE UPDATE 11/6/2024
Poe arrived at KHS last week with extreme injuries caused by a gunshot. We jumped into action upon his arrival by providing him with pain medication and antibiotics to keep him comfortable as we assessed his wounds. Our hearts broke when x-rays revealed a severe break to Poe’s front right leg along with bullet and bone fragments littering his little body. The trauma he must have endured is unthinkable.
Despite all he’s been through, Poe’s resilient spirit shines through. He’s been able to use his leg for support without causing himself any pain, giving us hope that his injuries may be able to heal without amputation. Poe is resting in a loving foster home where he will be able to recover without the added stress of shelter life. He will return for a check-up in a couple of weeks, at which point we will be able to determine whether his injuries require surgery. Please continue to hold Poe close to your hearts, and donate in his honor using the button below. Your support makes a world of difference for the animals who come to our door in desperate need of tender loving care. Thank you!
Poe, a two-year-old black cat, arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center this week with heartbreaking injuries caused by a gunshot. X-rays revealed this poor kitty’s front right leg was severely wounded, and his humerus bone was shattered by a bullet. Shrapnel litters his body and is even lodged behind his left eye. We can’t imagine the cruelty this sweet cat endured.
Our team is providing Poe with pain medication and antibiotics to keep him comfortable and infection-free while he heals. We’ve splinted his leg and hope his injuries will heal with time and rest. However, Poe will need to remain under observation so we can determine if an amputation surgery is needed. For now, we are grateful that this loving cat came to KHS where he is receiving the tender loving care he desperately needs and deserves. Please to support lifesaving, emergency medical care for vulnerable animals like Poe. Together, we can stand behind every broken, abused and neglected animal who comes through our doors.
