Kennel Chronicles: News & Events for Kentucky Humane Society Friends

Mr. Happy is On the Mend

Mr. Happy is recovering well from amputation surgery after coming to KHS suffering from a radial nerve avulsion in his front left leg. He grows more alert by the day, purring and leaning into affection every chance he gets. Now that Mr. Happy’s leg is on the mend, our veterinary team is focused on helping him gain weight to recover from his emaciation. He is getting lots of love in addition to nutrition, and seems to be growing healthier by the day. We are so grateful that Mr. Happy came to KHS to receive the tender loving care he needs to thrive. We will be sure to keep you updated on his progress, but in the meantime consider making a donation in Mr. Happy’s honor. Every gift impacts vulnerable animals in our community who have nowhere else to turn.

Popeye’s Next Chapter

Popeye came to KHS in late August and after settling into shelter life, his stress was evident. We found him a foster home where he could decompress, and his true personality began to shine. Popeye’s time in a foster home helped us learn his likes and dislikes, ultimately allowing us to find him a forever home perfectly suited for his needs.

After five months in his foster home, Popeye has found his people and will soon be adopted! Thanks to his dedicated foster paw-rents, this sweet dog felt safe enough to open up and show us how loving he truly is. Now he’s all set for a lifetime of love and laughter with his favorite people by his side. Happy tails, Popeye! You can make a difference for animals like Popeye by becoming a foster caregiver today. You’re Invited: Foster Open House

Curious about fostering a shelter animal but unsure of where to start? Join us on Saturday, January 27 at the Sam Swope Pet TLC (Main Campus) for a Foster Open House. Our foster team will teach you all about our program and introduce you to some of the animals in need of breaks from shelter life. Approved foster caregivers can even leave the open house with a new foster animal! Cat people and dog people alike are sure to find perfect placements who suit their schedule and household dynamic.

Adopt Kusama

Kusama is a six-year-old Kentucky Mountain mare who was rescued alongside her herd last February. She was pregnant upon her arrival at Willow Hope Farm and safely delivered a beautiful colt named Jax in April. Now that her baby is weaned and adopted, Kusama is ready to find a loving home with an experienced horse owner. Because of her past, Kusama needs a committed owner who’s ready to continue her training. We’re confident that with a little bit of patience, her skills will start to shine!
