The Kentucky Humane Society is excited to announce our 2023 Volunteer of the Year! Nominated by multiple staff members, we are proud to announce Annabelle Pike as the Kentucky Humane Society’s Volunteer of the Year. Annabelle is currently a volunteer at Willow Hope Farm, home to our Equine C.A.R.E. rescue facility. Since February 2020, the equine team can count on Annabelle to be at the farm each week – rain or shine!
As a volunteer for nearly three years, Annabelle helps clean stalls, feed horses, work with farm visitors and scrub water tanks. A dirty job to some – but we can always find Annabelle completing these tasks with a smile. Our team relies on Annabelle, knowing that she takes great care for each horse and monitors their wellbeing.
“Annabelle always represents KHS in a compassionate, respectful and professional manner. She is an integral part of the operations at Willow Hope Farm,” Olivia Dixon, Equine C.A.R.E. Manager said. Annabelle has also traveled with our Equine C.A.R.E. team to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky to assist with the inventory and catching of feral horses. She has also helped our team execute our partnership with the Veteran’s Club, ensuring that our Home Herd horses are fed and ready to work with the veterans.
Outside of volunteering, Annabelle has two rescue cats, two rescue dogs and one rescue horse – so she spends a lot of time with her animals. She is also works at the University of Louisville Hospital as the Injury Prevention Manager.
“We are immeasurably lucky to have her patronage here at Willow Hope Farm and her long-term dedication to helping our mission. She is just a gem!”
– Olivia Dixon, Equine C.A.R.E. Manager
