Lilo Update

2/12/2026

It’s been just over a week since Lilo underwent emergency eye removal surgery. She’s been peacefully recovering in her foster home and thankfully, her surgical site is healing very well. She returned earlier this week to have her sutures removed and our veterinary team was very happy with her progress.

With all of this pain and fear behind her, Lilo grows more confident and playful by the day. She’s beginning to show interest in toys, loves wrestling with her foster brother and snuggles up on her foster mom’s chest every night.

Most importantly, Lilo’s weight is finally on track for her age. At one and a half months old, she’s weighing in at 1.25 pounds! She’s doubled in size and strength, and is growing at the perfect pace. This is a huge deal for a kitten that’s been through so much, and we’re so relieved that we can confidently say Lilo’s prognosis is no longer guarded.

Thank you for your continued support of sweet little Lilo. It’s thanks to compassionate people like you that we’re able to provide our community’s most vulnerable animals with the care they deserve. We’ll keep you posted as Lilo’s recovery continues but in the meantime, donate in her honor so that we can continue our lifesaving work for the furry friends we hold so dear.

Unfortunately, Lilo took a turn for the worst over the weekend when her foster mom noticed severe swelling in her injured eye. She came in for a checkup and our veterinary team found that Lilo’s eye – which had on the brink of rupturing for weeks – was quickly worsening and needed to be removed. Though we’d hoped to hold off on surgery until she was bigger, Lilo’s quality of life demanded immediate action. Left untreated, the eye could have ruptured and caused her untold amounts of pain while riddling her tiny body with infection. With Lilo’s future weighing heavily on our minds, we showered her in kisses and prepped her for emergency surgery, promising to do everything in our power to save her life and reunite her with her foster brother.

To be honest, the odds were not in Lilo’s favor. Her small size and fragile condition made sedation a risk, but we had all hands on deck to help this poor baby make it through. Thankfully, her surgery was a success and we were able to remove her eye in the nick of time. In fact, it ruptured almost immediately after we removed it, proving we’d only had moments to spare.

Lilo woke up from surgery cuddled up in our arms, and has since been under close observation to ensure proper healing. She seems to be recovering well and is quite happy to be back with her brother, Alastor. Most importantly, she no longer has the threat of sepsis or lifelong pain looming over her head.

Lilo will continue to recover in her foster home so that she can peacefully adjust to her new “normal” with her foster brother by her side. We are hopeful that with this terrible ordeal behind her, her body will be able to focus on gaining weight rather than fighting to survive. Eventually, she and Alastor will undergo alteration surgery and begin their search for a forever home – together, as they’ve always been. Please continue donating in Lilo’s honor to support our lifesaving work for animals in our community. Your gifts make it possible for us to provide kittens like Lilo with the tender loving care they need to thrive.
