The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) has been celebrating June’s Adopt a Shelter Cat Month by waiving adoption fees on cats age one year and older. We still have many cats in need of loving homes so we have decided to extend June’s adoption special through the foreseeable future!
This adoption special is valid at the KHS Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center (also called the Main Campus), located at 241 Steedly Drive, and the KHS East Campus, located at 1000 Lyndon Lane. Adult cats located at the Purrfect Day Café are also included in this special. Adopters in Jefferson County will need to pay a $10.50 licensing fee.
KHS is in the height of kitten season with hundreds of kittens who were born this spring coming into Louisville’s shelters ready for adoption. This time of year can be particularly difficult for adult cats looking for homes, as it is hard for them to compete with fluffy kittens. To help them find loving homes faster, KHS is waiving adoption fees on all adult cats age one year and older.
While kittens are absolutely adorable, there are many advantages to adopting an older cat. According to KHS adoption staff:
- With an adult cat you have a better idea of their personality.
- Adult cats are lower maintenance—they need little monitoring and are experts in long cat naps.
- Many adult cats came from previous homes and are usually well versed at being good pets.
- Adult cats get into less mischief, and you do not need to “kitten-proof” your home.
All KHS cats are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations and flea prevention. Adoption is pending approval of an application process that takes about an hour. Visit kyhumane.org/cats to view all available felines.
