Marshmallow on the Road to Recovery
Marshmallow is recovering after coming into KHS suffering from wounds sustained in an animal attack. She underwent surgery yesterday to drain the abscess on her face, and is healing very well so far. She gets perkier by the hour and seems to be much more comfortable now that the swelling on her face is gone. Marshmallow will continue to rest and recover with our veterinary team so that she can complete her current round of antibiotics and ensure she’s free of lingering traces of infection. We are hopeful she’ll soon be ready for adoption and will leave her trauma behind for good, all thanks to supporters like you. Thank you for cheering Marshmallow on!
Marshmallow Update 2/19/2025
We’re happy to share that Marshmallow made some small improvements overnight with the help of antibiotics, pain medication and I.V. fluids. Her fever and swelling have both decreased a little bit, however, the best way to guarantee a full recovery is to drain the abscess on her face. She will undergo surgery this afternoon, and we are hopeful it will help her heal faster. In the meantime, please continue to cheer her on and donate in her honor. This little two-month-old puppy arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center in horrific shape after being attacked by another animal. Her face is severely swollen with infection and she’s running a very high 105.2 degree fever. With puncture wounds on the top and bottom of her head, this puppy has endured more pain than any animal should ever go through. Despite it all, she is sweet and loving towards our staff and has earned herself an equally sweet name – Marshmallow!
Our main focus right now is reducing Marshmallow’s fever. We have started her on antibiotics and pain medication in hopes of avoiding sepsis, but she will likely need to undergo surgery in the next 24-48 hours to drain the abscess of infection on her face.
