S.N.I.P. Clinic Moves to Preston Hwy Sept 10

New location on Preston Hwy will lead to increased spay/neuter surgeries

The Kentucky Humane Society’s S.N.I.P. Clinic has moved from Crittenden Drive to a larger location at 4918 Preston Highway in South Louisville. The grand opening is Monday, September 10, 2018.

The goal is to increase the number of spay/neuter surgeries and reduce pet overpopulation, according to Karen Koenig, Vice President for Animal Welfare at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS).

The S.N.I.P. (spay/neuter incentive program) Clinic is Kentucky’s largest public spay/neuter provider. Since it opened in 2007, the clinic has altered over 110,000 dogs and cats. This has helped lead to a more than 50% decline in local animals surrendered to Louisville’s two largest shelters, Louisville Metro Animal Services and the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS).

More than half of S.N.I.P. Clinic clients qualify for financial aid, which is funded by grants from PetSmart Charities, Best Friends Animal Society, Petco Foundation and Dogs Trust Worldwide.

“The S.N.I.P. Clinic provides low-cost and no-cost spay/neuter surgeries to dogs and cats,” said Koenig. “All dogs and cats are welcome, but we have a particular mission to help families who are financially struggling or those whose animals are most at-risk for shelter surrender.”

The move was funded in part by a $50,000 grant from the William M. Wood Foundation. The new location is 1,200 sq. ft. larger than the original building, and parking increased from just 8 spaces to over 30.

Appointments are required for spay/neuter surgeries. Visit www.kyhumane.org/snip for more information or call 502-636-3491.
