Sarge needed to be rescued. He needed … a superhero.

The senior Border Collie mix arrived at the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) last spring from a rural Kentucky shelter after he was found as a stray. He was covered in long, whip-shaped scars. He also had severe glaucoma, which caused painful pressure in his eyes and led to complete blindness.

Sarge needed our help. And thanks to you, we were there for him.

Our veterinary team rushed Sarge to surgery to remove the source of his pain. After the operation, Sarge immediately felt better. He gave a kiss to each of our team members, as if to say, “Thank you for saving me.”

A caring foster volunteer brought Sarge home to spend time with her family. She was determined to teach him that people could be good and kind, and to give him time to heal from his physical and emotional scars.

Thanks to people like you who came to his rescue, Sarge discovered the world was not a scary place. He learned to navigate stairs and loved his walks. At night he snuggled with his foster family and breathed sighs of relief. He learned how to find balls by sound. Sarge learned to enjoy life.

We found Sarge an amazing family who adores him. He’s settled in perfectly. He loves playing with children and greeting other dogs and people on his daily walks. His favorite activity is going with his “mom” to pick up the children from school. He loves car rides! And he sleeps each night next to the kids.
