Maria Jones, a retired high school world languages teacher, volunteers at the Sam Swope Pet TLC exercising dogs. She also helps out at Kentucky Humane Society events when possible. To Maria, one of the greatest joys of volunteering is seeing senior pets and bonded animals adopted.
She also has a soft spot for animals who have difficulty finding the perfect forever home. She remembers fondly, “Tums, a dog who was here off and on for several years, and was adopted multiple times and was brought back through no fault of her own. She is now living happily with her forever family.”
Maria loves her volunteer work, but adds the following advice: “You need to be dedicated and follow through on the commitment you have made to the animals at the shelter.”
When not volunteering for the Kentucky Humane Society, Maria loves to garden and to read, especially psychological thrillers, mysteries and novels about World War II.
We are grateful for dedicated volunteers like Maria who help our shelter pets during their wait for a forever home. Interested in volunteering? Learn more.
