Yesterday a wounded dog came to KHS as an emergency medical intake after a suspected animal attack. The one-year-old girl has gashes on her shoulder and head that are weeping with infection. These wounds are so deep that her skin is falling apart, leaving muscles and tissues exposed. If much more time had passed without receiving treatment, this dog could have lost her life. While we will never know exactly what caused this pup such extreme injuries, we suspect she was attacked by an animal based on the severity, depth and location of the wounds. Our veterinary team will need to clean and dress her wounds daily, and provide her with pain medication and antibiotics to fight off her infection.
We’ve named her Wonder Woman, in hopes of inspiring her to remain strong. Despite the pain we know she must feel, Wonder Woman has been extremely affectionate with our staff, seeking comfort in Dr. Bewley’s arms. She will be closely monitored over the weekend to ensure she remains stable and alert. We ask for you to consider a donation to support the lifesaving medical care we give to animals like Wonder Woman who come to KHS with emergency medical needs.
