Help Us Empty the Shelters and Give Holiday Hope Dec. 13-14!
BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) is aiming to bring holiday hope to homeless pets with its national Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope event. On Dec. 13-14, 2019, BPF will support over 110 shelters by offering reduced-fee pet adoptions – including the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) and Metro Animal Services (MAS).
During these days, KHS is reducing adoption fees on dogs to $25 and will be charging no adoption fees on cats. MAS is waiving all adoption fees both days for all cats and dogs, thanks to BPF and the non-profit, Friends of Metro Animal Services.
The KHS special is valid for all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at the KHS East Campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane, and at KHS adoption centers at seven Feeders Supply stores: Dixie, Fern Creek, Hikes Point, North Dixie, Preston, Springhurst and St. Matthews. (Excludes cats from Purrfect Day Cafe.) View all KHS pets and their locations at www.kyhumane.org/dogs or www.kyhumane.org/cats.
MAS is offering free adoptions for all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at Animal House Adoption Center, 3516 Newburg Road; the LMAS Harshaw Family Foundation Animal Shelter, 3528 Newburg Road; and PetSmart, 4601 Outer Loop. For more information about LMAS Pet Adoptions or to view adoptable pets, visit https://www.louisvilleky.gov/animal-services/services/adopt-pet.
While KHS and MAS will be reducing or waiving adoption fees Friday and Saturday, the adoption process remains the same. Adopters will fill out an application, must be approved to adopt and will meet with an adoption counselor, to ensure every pet finds the right home. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Adopters are asked to bring or purchase a collar and leash for dogs, and a crate for cats. Jefferson County residents will also be required to purchase a 1-year, renewable pet license. Donations are gratefully accepted.
BPF’s Empty the Shelters program began in 2016 to capitalize on the foundation’s mission to find every pet a loving home. Empty the Shelters aims to shed light on pet homelessness across the county and encourage families to adopt a pet and save a life.
