Partnership with Kentucky Humane Society Supports COVID-19 Pet Food Bank
When the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) desperately needed cat food for its newly opened COVID-19 Pet Food Bank, Purrfect Day Café and its supporters came to the rescue.
KHS had received an incredible donation of over 41,000 pounds of Eukanuba dog food to help owners suffering financially from the economic crisis – but no cat food.
Purrfect Day Café created an Amazon “wish list” and invited the café’s fans to donate. Within a matter of days, supporters of Louisville’s first cat café had donated over $2,796 worth of cat food to the food bank: in total, they donated 267 bags of dry cat food and 906 cans of wet cat food – plus litter, treats, toys and other supplies. That’s enough to feed 300 hungry cats. And donations continue to pour in.
Rosemary Brown, Top Cat at Purrfect Day spearheaded the initiative. “We knew our followers would support and do what they could. Louisville is truly a family-friendly city and we are proud of the support they provide for our cause,” she said.
“We are so grateful for Purrfect Day Café’s partnership and for the food their customers have donated to our Pet Food Bank,” said Karen Koenig, KHS Vice President of Animal Welfare. “The COVID-19 Pet Food Bank is providing nutritious food to animals and bringing peace of mind to families impacted by the economic crisis.”
In total, 1,278 families with 4,689 pets were assisted in the first three weeks of KHS’ COVID-19 Pet Food Bank being open.
Starting April 27, the KHS COVID-19 Pet Food Bank is open by appointment only to qualifying pet owners who first fill out COVID-19 Pet Food Bank Application. Due to staffing limitations, the Kentucky Humane Society is no longer offering a drive-through pet food bank but is requiring scheduled appointments.
The COVID-19 Pet Food Bank is made possible by donations from fans of Purrfect Day Café, GreaterGood.org, Eukanuba Nutrition, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, The Humane Society of the United States, Mister “P” Express, Inc., and local citizens. Learn morea bout the Pet Food Bank.
