Puppy Arrives at KHS with Degloved Foot

Early this week, a 12-month-old puppy arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center with a shocking degloving injury to her back left foot. The poor puppy, who we’ve named Bonnie, has exposed bone where a pup’s paw should be. Unsure of exactly how this gruesome injury occurred, our veterinary team leaped into action to provide Bonnie with pain medication and antibiotics to help ease her pain and prevent infection from setting in.We are doing everything we can to ensure Bonnie heals from the trauma and pain she’s endured. While we hope to avoid amputation surgery, it may be the only to guarantee a full recovery. She is under close observation so our vet team can determine the best way to move forward. Thankfully, Bonnie is exactly where she needs to be: here, getting the tender loving care she deserves. We will keep you updated on her progress, but in the meantime, we ask you to please consider donating in her honor. Your gift will impact vulnerable animals like Bonnie who are in desperate need of our TLC. Thank you for caring!

Jewel’s New Eyelid Heals in the Comfort of a Foster Home

We recently introduced you to Jewel after she came to KHS suffering from eyelid agenesis. This birth defect causes abnormal eyelid development, and, in Jewel’s case, left her without an eyelid. Dr. Bewley successfully performed a lip commissure to eyelid transposition procedure, which used a portion of Jewel’s upper lip to graft a new eyelid on her right eye. Since then, Jewel has been recovering peacefully in a loving foster home and has taken great strides! Jewel recently visited our veterinary team to have her sutures removed, and they were very pleased to see her blinking with ease. Most importantly, she is no longer at risk of developing blindness and can run, play and sleep without fighting the constant irritation and pain caused by her missing eyelid. This sweet kitten will soon be ready to find a forever home, but for now she will continue recovering with her foster caregivers. Thank you for your continued support of animals like Jewel – we couldn’t do this lifesaving work without you!

Happy Tails to Figgy

Figgy was rescued earlier this year by KHS staff. She was on the verge of hypothermia and sepsis when a local postal worker noticed her on his delivery route. After some well-deserved rest and tender loving care, Figgy was cleared for adoption and started her search for a forever home! It didn’t take long before her new family came along and fell in love with Figgy’s laid-back, loving personality. They made it official this week, and now this sweet dog can put her pain behind her.
