Meet our July Volunteer of the Month, Roberta Elmore! Retired from the accounting field and as a dog groomer, Roberta has refueled her passion for animal care by volunteering at the Kentucky Humane Society.
Roberta is currently a volunteer for the East Campus, but has also spent time at volunteering at Hikes Point and Springhurst Feeders Supply helping the adoptions team at our offsite locations. During her shifts, Roberta is kept busy assisting with laundry, cleaning the facility, working with customers and socializing the animals. She is no stranger to small or large dogs as she spent 20+ years grooming dogs. Her background in canine grooming has only aided her volunteer experience, making her a valuable asset to our volunteer team.
Her favorite thing about volunteering is returning for a shift the following week to discover that that one of her favorite animals has been adopted. When asked what advice she has for new volunteers, she tells us to “prepare to lose your heart every time you go in to volunteer when you meet the pets up for adoption. The animals are so appreciate of the walks you take them on and the time you spend giving them TLC.”
When not volunteering, Roberta is busy taking care of her own animals, a dog and cat, ensuring that they are both happy and healthy. She prioritizes exercising 30 minutes a day. She has a few favorite TV shows she indulges in and enjoys spending time with friends. You can also find her working in the yard or curled up with a good book.
Roberta is pictured with Dot, a two month old Beagle mix available for adoption.
Thank you to Raising Cane‘s for sponsoring our volunteer program!”
