Meet our June Volunteer of the Month, Dawn Rowe. A dedicated volunteer and foster for the Kentucky Humane Society, Dawn has built a room in her house called the “Cat Paradise Room.”

Dawn currently works for Equian, where she manages all support staff within the legal department. Passionate about volunteering, Dawn is also the chairperson for the company’s Stewardship Team where she educates employees on volunteering at various organizations in the city.

At KHS, Dawn volunteers in any department where her services are needed. She has spent time at fundraising events, including Tuxes and Tails and Waggin’ Trail. She also helps out at our S.N.I.P. Clinic. The bulk of her volunteer time is spent assisting the foster program. Fostering “saves so many lives, and I am proud to be part of that,” Dawn says. “It also helps that my employer has over 700 employees so people come to me all the time looking for a pet to adopt!”

When asked what advice she has for someone interested in volunteering, Dawn tells us to “do it! No matter where you volunteer at KHS, you will enjoy yourself, meet new people and bring joy to so many animals. I have made some lifetime friends while volunteering.”

Dawn has a 29-year-old son, six dogs and six cats who are spoiled rotten. In her down time, Dawn also pet sits for a large number of dogs and cats she has fostered and adopted over the years. However, her ideal way to relax is curling up on the couch to binge watch Netflix or Hulu while getting as many animals as possible to join her on the sofa. Dawn describes this as the most perfect day.

Dawn is pictured with two of her 13 current fosters in her “Cat Paradise Room,” an area designated specifically for the felines she fosters.

Thank you to Raising Cane‘s for sponsoring our volunteer program.
