Covid-19 Update: ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT

Book an Appointment to Meet Adoptable Dogsmembership square dog

Thank you for your interest in adopting a grateful dog! To facilitate social distancing, the Kentucky Humane Society is now offering adoptions by appointment at our East Campus at 1000 Lyndon Lane and our Main Campus at 241 Steedly Drive (also called the Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center) in Louisville. We are unable to allow walk-ins at this time, and appointments must be booked in advance. Feeders Supply adoption centers are closed.

Dogs have "East Campus" or "Main Campus" after their names to indicate which site they are currently at. Mod Squad dogs and Adoption Ambassador dogs have a different adoption process - click on their bios (below) for info. Please be aware that our animal population changes daily and we cannot guarantee which animals will be present when you arrive for your appointment.

  • Book your one-hour appointment
  • During your adoption appointment, you will be allotted 30 minutes to meet animals and 30 minutes to complete the counseling and paperwork portion of the adoption.
  • Masks must be worn at all times during your appointment.
  • Only two members of a family will be allowed in the building at a time, but family members may rotate out during the appointment.
  • We will be happy to facilitate meet and greets between your resident dog(s) and any adoptable dogs over 4 months of age during your appointment.
  • You can reschedule your appointment on your own, up to one hour before your appointment. Before your appointment, please check our website to see what animals are available.
  • If you decide to cancel your adoption appointment, please contact us at least one hour before. If you do not let us know in advance, after two no-shows you will not be allowed to schedule another appointment.
  • We cannot guarantee the availability of animals you may be interested in at your adoption appointment. Adoptions are on a first-come basis, and we are not able to hold animals.

Please click on the photos of dogs you are interested in below for more information.  This website is updated in real time; when an animal is adopted, they are removed from the site, and newly available animals are added throughout the day.  Adoptions are on a first-come basis, and we are not able to hold animals. We ask for your patience during this time as we are working to find homes for grateful dogs and cats while keeping our staff and community safe. Thank you for your understanding! #TeamKentucky #HealthyatWork #TogetherKY
