Celebrate National Dog Day with Us!
Did you know that August 26 is National Dog Day? This “howl-iday” celebrates big dogs, little dogs, mutts and purebreds and what they mean to us. Every day, dogs bring us comfort, make us laugh, give us unconditional love – and some even save our lives. Here are just a few ideas on how you can celebrate what dogs mean to you:
Give in Your Pup’s Honor
Donate in honor of or memorial of your four-legged best friend. Your gift will be a lovely tribute to your dog and will help KHS save more lives. Donate Now.
Adopt
Are you looking to adopt? Wonderful! View adoptable dogs and their locations at kyhumane.org/dogs. Because of the pandemic, we are doing things a little differently, and adoption appointments must be scheduled online in advance (sorry, walk-ins are not allowed). We ask for your patience as we are working through a new way to adopt while keeping our community and staff safe.
Foster
If you aren’t quite ready to adopt, you might want to consider being a foster volunteer. As a foster volunteer, you can help KHS “expand our shelter walls,” allowing us to save the lives of even more animals. The pets you help and the love you receive will warm your heart. Foster caregivers provide temporary homes until the animals are ready for adoption. Learn more.
Sponsor a Dog
You can sponsor a dog by visiting kyhumane.org/dogs and clicking on “Sponsor me!” on each pet’s profile. Your sponsorship of a special animal will help us save more lives.
BOGO at Our Pet Resorts
Do you have a weekend trip coming up? Our Fern Creek Pet Resort and Eastpoint Pet Resort are offering a “buy one night, get one free” for overnight boarding through September. Give us a call to schedule boarding and daily activities for your dog. Plus proceeds benefit our shelter pets. Learn more.
Sign Up for Dog Training Classes
There are some behaviors that aren’t just about “sit” and “come.” Sometimes, there are dogs that could use a little extra support, or you may have a specific question or behavior that you finally have the time to start working on. Our certified behavior trainers offer private outdoor training as well as virtual options to help your dog be the best dog they can be. Learn more.
Don’t Forget About Cats!
Although it’s National Dog Day, cats need you too! Did you know that KHS is seeing MORE cats at the shelter this year than ever before? Adopt a kitty age six months or older for just $10. Visit kyhumane.org/cats to learn more.
