A Big Thanks to the Arnall Family Foundation and ASPCA for Their Support

The Kentucky Humane Society is grateful for the Arnall Family Foundation‘s and the ASPCA‘s support of our new Animal Relocation Vehicle, which helps us safely and comfortably transport shelter animals from rural animal shelters across Kentucky to KHS for adoption.

Last year, over 4,000 animals made the journey from other shelters to KHS for adoption. Many of them came from rural counties across the commonwealth. When municipal shelters become overcrowded, they often reach out to KHS for help. Transporting animals to KHS gives second chances to shelter pets, and helps underresourced shelters reduce overcrowding and euthanasia.

The Animal Relocation Vehicle was purchased thanks to grant funds from the WaterShed Animal Fund – a division of the Arnall Family Foundation – which is supporting our Love 120 initiative. This initiative has the goal of positively impacting animals in all 120 Kentucky counties within a decade.

A grant from the ASPCA allowed us to upfit the vehicle to meet rigorous safety standards. Funding from the ASPCA paid for such safety and comfort measures as air conditioning and heat, a temperature alarm system, lights, insulation, cameras so our driver can keep an eye on the animals, and Ruff Land Kennels and a kennel containment system to keep animals safe and secure during their ride to Louisville.

The upfitted Animal Relocation Vehicle allows KHS to safely transport animals from their origin shelter to the the Kentucky Humane Society, reducing strain on the origin shelter’s staff and volunteers and increasing KHS’ lifesaving impact on rural Kentucky.
